Magallanes is a third class municipality in the province of Sorsogon, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 35,443 people.
According to renowned historians and anthropologists such as Domingo Abella, Luis Camara Dery, Merito Espinas, F. Mallari, Norman Owen, Mariano Goyena del Prado, et al., Magallanes is also the present location of the ancient settlement of Ibalong.

Known to the Spaniards as Encoienda de Yguey, with two visitas - Parina and Caditaan. The present townsite of Magallanes is the, then, visita of Parina. With the approval of the Spanish colonial government, the town was founded on April 30, 1859, upon the initiative of Spanish abaca trader, Don Manuel de Castro. The name of the town was chosen in honor of the first circumnavigator of the world, Ferdinand Magellan.
De Castro, who was operating a astillero, became the first gobernadorcillo.
Magallanes became an independent parish on December 11, 1863.
It is in Magallanes where Gibalong (now sitio San Isidro) is located, at the mouth of Ginangra River, reputed to be the place where the first Christian mass in Luzonwas celebrated. The name ibalon or Tiera de Gibalong, which is also used to identify the Bicol region at the time, came from the name of the place - Gibalong.
It is also in Magallanes where Bagatao Island can be found. It is considered as one of the most important and biggest shipyards at the time, where some of the biggest and most magnificent Spanish galleons were built. It was then known as the Real Astillero de Bagatao.

Many historical places are being patronized in Magallanes for it does really contribute for the freedom of our country. This was once colonized by the Spaniards and many ancient tools were found during the World War II but these things were preserved to showcase it for the students that this have been part of the enormous history of Magallanes. Thus, the culture is always there to bring us where we are supposed to be and these  historical places should be well cared and taken charge for the next generation.

Also, this is the Mt. Carmel Parish wherein town folks attend the mass as a sign of their religiosity. However,i am not a catholic but for me it is not about the church that we can receive the salvation from everlasting death, it is your own faith and belief that will save us and draw us nearer to God's kingdom. As long as we fulfill God's purpose in our life then we will be saved and be protected against all odds.

Magallanes is a third class municipality in the province of Sorsogon, a place of adventure and fun although the place is quite far and is not yet very popular to every people but there are already many tourists from different places in the Philippines and foreign countries that are visiting in this town for its beautiful characteristics and is already being compared to a paradise. Long trip will be experienced but when you got here already, all the jet lag, anxiety and tiredness will be easily swept away for it is truly the place that will help you unwind and relax. The famous tourist attraction in the town is the Parola Beach Resort for it's white and fine sand and also the remains of the dead coral reefs was being carried away near the seashore. This is also being loved because of its crystal clear and fresh mist of water, many rock formations that are being found  in the beach and in the midst of the water. That is why people swimming here loves to jump and dive in the deep blue sea. This is a best place for family outings and overnight activities for there are also stable cottages that are being operated by the Local Government of Magallanes and is a best spot for sunrise and sunset viewing.
